Disney World at Christmas With Kids
What’s Worth It in 2026

KidsParkGuide.com · Disney

The 2026 dates, the Christmas party, EPCOT’s holiday festival, and how to enjoy the most decorated time of year without spending your whole trip in a crowd.

Disney World at Christmas with kids is magical, and it’s also the busiest, priciest stretch of the year. The good news: you don’t have to visit Christmas week to get the decorations, the castle lighting, or Santa. For 2026, the holiday season runs November 13 through January 6, and the first two and a half weeks of December give families most of the magic with far smaller crowds than the days around Christmas and New Year’s.

At a Glance
Holiday Season Nov 13, 2026 – Jan 6, 2027
Best Window Nov 30 – about Dec 18
Busiest Stretch Dec 20 – early January

Everything overlaps from November 27 to December 22. That’s when EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and the park decorations are all running at once.

The Christmas party is expensive and selling out. 2026 tickets run about $189–$229 per adult before tax, and several November nights, including the cheapest ones, had already sold out by mid-October.

A lot of the magic is free with your park ticket. The castle lighting, Jingle Cruise, EPCOT’s holiday storytellers, and Santa in every park don’t cost extra.

The Grand Floridian gingerbread house is gone for good. Disney retired it, and visiting other resorts’ decorations now works best with a dining reservation.

Pack for cool nights. December days are usually pleasant, but evenings can feel genuinely chilly, especially for little ones sitting in a stroller during a parade.

When Is Christmas at Disney World in 2026?

Disney’s official holiday season runs from November 13, 2026 through January 6, 2027, across all four parks, Disney Springs, and the resort hotels. A few things start earlier or end sooner, so here are the dates that matter most for planning.

Key 2026 Dates

Disney World Holiday Calendar

  • Holiday season: November 13, 2026 – January 6, 2027
  • Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (Magic Kingdom): 25 select nights, November 8 – December 22
  • Disney Jollywood Nights (Hollywood Studios): select nights, November 7 – January 5
  • EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays: November 27 – December 30, included with park admission
  • Candlelight Processional (EPCOT): nightly during the festival
  • Santa: meets guests in all four parks and Disney Springs through Christmas Eve
  • Thanksgiving: November 26, 2026, which kicks off one of the busiest weekends of the season

The Best Time to Visit Disney World at Christmas With Kids

When you go changes the trip more than anything else on this page. Here’s how the season breaks down for families.

Mid-November

Decorations are up and the Christmas party has started, but EPCOT’s holiday festival doesn’t begin until November 27. A good value window if the party is your priority.

Thanksgiving Week

Busy, especially the long weekend. Everything is running, but you’ll feel the crowds and pay higher prices.

Nov 30 – Dec 18

Our pick for most families. The festival, the party, and every decoration are in place, and crowds are usually much lighter than Christmas week.

Dec 20 – Early Jan

The most crowded stretch of the year. It can still be wonderful, but go in with a plan, a midday break, and realistic expectations.

If your dates are flexible, our best time to visit Disney World with kids guide compares December against the rest of the calendar.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party With Kids: Is It Worth It?

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a separately ticketed evening event at Magic Kingdom. It’s the only way to see the Christmas parade and holiday fireworks on most nights, and for a lot of families it’s the highlight of a December trip. It’s also one of the most expensive add-ons Disney sells.

2026 Party Basics
  • Dates: November 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25, 27, 29 and December 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 20, 22
  • Hours: The party officially starts at 7 p.m., and ticket holders can enter as early as 4 p.m. It runs until midnight.
  • Price: About $189–$229 per adult before tax, depending on the night. Kids ages 3–9 are $10 less. Later dates cost more.
  • Included: Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks, the Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration castle show, holiday character meets, and free cookies and drinks around the park.
  • Sell-outs: Opening night and the lowest-priced nights had already sold out by mid-October. If you want a specific date, don’t wait.

Holiday overlays also show up on Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, Mad Tea Party, Jungle Cruise, and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor during the party, so even the rides feel different.

Making the Party Work With Young Kids

A party that runs until midnight is a big ask for a 4-year-old. A few things make it easier:

  • 01Use the 4 p.m. entry. Your party ticket gets you in three hours before the official start, so you can ride and eat before the evening shows. Skip a morning park that day and rest at the hotel instead.
  • 02Pick one parade showing and one fireworks. You don’t need to see everything twice. The parade runs more than once, and the later showing is usually less crowded.
  • 03Bring ear protection for fireworks. If your kids are sensitive to noise, a pair of kids’ earmuffs lets them stay for the finale. Our sensory-friendly Disney and Universal guide has more ideas.
  • 04Plan a warm stroller. Little ones sitting still for a parade get cold before you do. A soft Disney character fleece blanket folds into the stroller basket and doubles as a nap blanket.
  • 05Know when to call it. If everyone’s fading by 9:30, that’s a good party. You don’t have to close the park to get your money’s worth.

Pro Tip

On party nights, Magic Kingdom closes to regular day guests at 6 p.m. Check the party calendar before you schedule your regular Magic Kingdom day, so you don’t pick a date that ends early.

What You Can See Without a Party Ticket

If the party price doesn’t fit your budget, you still get plenty of Christmas with a regular park ticket. Here’s what’s included in each park for 2026.

01 Magic Kingdom

Main Street and Cinderella Castle are fully decorated, and the Frozen Holiday Surprise castle lighting happens every night after sunset, when Elsa turns the castle into a glowing ice palace. The Jingle Cruise holiday version of Jungle Cruise is back with its holiday jokes. On non-party nights, the evening parade is Disney Starlight, not the Christmas parade.

In past years, the Christmas parade has also run during the day for all guests in the last week of December, after the parties end. Disney hadn’t confirmed that for 2026 when we checked, so look at the app’s schedule for your dates. Our Magic Kingdom 1-day itinerary still works as your base plan.

02 EPCOT

EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays (November 27 – December 30) is included with admission, and it’s the most kid-friendly part of the season after the castle. Details are in the next section.

03 Hollywood Studios

Sunset Seasons Greetings projects holiday scenes onto the Tower of Terror building after dark. The Frozen sing-along adds a holiday finale, and Woody, Jessie, and Buzz wear holiday outfits in Toy Story Land. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Alien Swirling Saucers both play holiday music this season. Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Hollywood & Vine is the character meal here, and reservations go fast.

04 Animal Kingdom

Life-size winter animal puppets roam Discovery Island as part of Merry Menagerie, and the Tree of Life gets holiday projections after sunset. Santa’s Holiday Grove has intermittent snow flurries, and Mickey and Minnie greet guests in holiday outfits at Adventurers Outpost. Animal Kingdom closes earliest, so the Tree of Life show is easiest to catch on a day it stays open past sunset.

Free and Easy

Disney Springs at Christmas

Disney Springs needs no ticket at all. The Christmas Tree Stroll has themed trees (including a Toy Story one), there’s nightly “snowfall” in Town Center, and Santa visits through December 24. It’s an easy holiday evening on a rest day. For more ideas, see our rest day activities near Disney World.

EPCOT Festival of the Holidays With Kids

The Festival of the Holidays runs November 27 through December 30, 2026, and it’s included with your EPCOT ticket. Adults tend to focus on the Holiday Kitchens, but there’s a lot for kids too.

  • Olaf’s Holiday Tradition Expedition: A scavenger hunt around World Showcase that ends with a small holiday keepsake. It gives kids a reason to keep walking.
  • Holiday Storytellers: Performers in pavilions across World Showcase share how each country celebrates, from Père Noël in France to Father Christmas in the United Kingdom. Short and easy for little ones to sit through.
  • Santa sightings: Santa greets guests in CommuniCore Hall, and Goofy dressed as Santa poses for photos at The Odyssey.
  • Holiday Cookie Stroll: Buy five qualifying cookies at Holiday Kitchens, collect the stamps, and redeem them for a special treat. Easy to split between a few kids.
  • Gingerbread Spaceship Earth: A gingerbread version of the park’s icon that lights up with a short song and light show every 15 minutes.

Is the Candlelight Processional Good for Kids?

The Candlelight Processional is a choir and orchestra telling the Christmas story with a celebrity narrator, held nightly during the festival at the America Gardens Theatre. Showtimes for 2026 are reported as 4:45, 6:30, and 8:00 p.m. It’s beautiful, but it’s a seated concert, so it suits kids who can sit quietly for a full performance. With toddlers, catching a few minutes from the standing area behind the theater is often the better move.

Guaranteed seats come with a Candlelight dining package. Otherwise you’ll wait in the standby line, which can get very long for popular narrators. Our EPCOT 1-day itinerary with kids can help you fit it into the day.

Disney Jollywood Nights: Better for Older Kids

Disney Jollywood Nights is Hollywood Studios’ separately ticketed holiday event. In 2026 it runs on select nights from November 7 through January 5, the first time it has extended into January. Guests can enter at 5:30 p.m., and the event runs from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Tickets were about $169–$199 plus tax, depending on the date.

It’s built around shows, music, and nightlife-style areas more than kid-focused moments, and the late hours make it a tough fit for preschoolers. For families with tweens or teens who’ve already done the Christmas party, it’s a fun alternative. For most families with younger kids, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is the better pick. Hollywood Studios closes to day guests at 7 p.m. on Jollywood nights, so check the calendar before planning a regular Hollywood Studios day.

Disney Resort Christmas Decorations and Gingerbread in 2026

Touring resort lobbies used to be a free Disney Christmas tradition. Two changes matter this year:

  • The Grand Floridian gingerbread house is retired. Disney says the life-size house is permanently retired, with smaller gingerbread displays around the hotel instead.
  • Visiting other resorts is more limited. Disney describes resort holiday decor as available to resort guests or those with valid dining reservations. Since June 2026, buses and boats from Disney Springs to the resorts also require a resort stay, dining reservation, or similar booking.

Other resorts, including the Contemporary, Beach Club, BoardWalk, and Animal Kingdom Lodge, have had gingerbread displays in recent years, but Disney hadn’t announced its 2026 displays when we checked. If a resort lobby is on your list, book a meal there. It’s the simplest way to make sure you can get in, and it turns the visit into a relaxed evening instead of a bus-hopping marathon.

What to Pack for Disney World in December

December in Orlando usually means comfortable days and cool nights, with the occasional cold snap. The mistake most families make is packing for summer and then standing at a 9 p.m. parade in shorts. Here’s what we’d add:

  • A light jacket for everyone: Something that blocks wind and rain, like the Columbia Watertight II jacket, packs small and covers chilly evenings and showers. Layer a sweatshirt under it on colder nights.
  • A stroller blanket: A fleece blanket keeps little ones warm during nighttime shows when they’re not moving.
  • Ponchos: December is one of Orlando’s drier months, but a poncho multipack weighs almost nothing and saves a soggy night. Our bad weather packing guide covers the rest.
  • A power bank: Holiday lights mean a lot of photos, and long party nights drain phones. A 10,000mAh power bank gets you through. More options are in our power bank guide.
  • An autograph book: Characters wear holiday outfits this time of year, and Santa visits every park. An autograph book makes a fun keepsake from a Christmas trip.

For full outfit ideas by temperature, see our what to wear to a theme park with kids guide. Everything else we pack lives on our full Amazon theme park list. Gifting part of the trip? Our Disney & Universal stocking stuffers guide has small gifts kids can open at Christmas and use in the parks.

Pro Tip

Dress kids in layers they can peel off. A chilly 8 a.m. rope drop can turn into a warm afternoon, and the temperature drops quickly after sunset. A light jacket tied to the stroller handle is easier than going back to the hotel for one.

How to Handle Christmas Week Crowds at Disney World

If the days around Christmas and New Year’s are the only time your family can go, you can still have a great trip. It just takes more planning than a quiet week in early December.

  • 01Be there for park opening. The first hour is the calmest part of a holiday day. Disney resort hotel guests get Early Entry 30 minutes before regular opening at every park.
  • 02Take a midday break. Crowds peak in the afternoon. Head back to the hotel for a nap or pool time and return for the evening lights.
  • 03Consider Lightning Lane. It’s most worth the money during peak weeks like this one. Our Lightning Lane guide breaks down when it pays off.
  • 04Book dining as early as you can. Holiday character meals and Candlelight dining packages fill up first. Our what to book before your Disney trip checklist covers the timing.
  • 05Check park hours close to your trip. Disney posted its Christmas week hours in October and often adds more time later. New Year’s Eve runs late at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios, which is great for older kids and a lot for little ones.

Real Parent Perspective

We’ve been to Disney World at Christmas, and it really is beautiful. It’s also busy. The best thing you can do is go in with realistic expectations about the crowds, because that makes it a lot easier to enjoy everything else. The hotels are decorated too, which is a lot of fun.

Decision Guide

Is Disney World at Christmas Right for Your Family?

Worth It If…

  • You can go between Thanksgiving weekend and about December 18
  • Your kids love Christmas, characters, and anything that lights up
  • You’d rather have cool weather than summer heat
  • You’ve budgeted for one holiday extra, like the Christmas party or a holiday character meal
  • Your kids can handle a few later nights for parades and lights

Think Twice If…

  • Christmas week or New Year’s is your only option and your kids struggle with crowds
  • The trip budget is already stretched before any holiday add-ons
  • It’s a first visit and you’d rather focus on rides than seasonal events
  • Your little ones are done by 7 p.m. and won’t see the evening entertainment
  • Touring resort gingerbread displays is the main reason you want to go

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • ✕Waiting on Christmas party tickets. Popular 2026 nights were already selling out in October.
  • ✕Scheduling your regular Magic Kingdom day on a party night, when the park closes to day guests at 6 p.m.
  • ✕Planning a mid-November trip around EPCOT’s holiday festival. It doesn’t start until November 27.
  • ✕Packing only shorts and T-shirts. Evening parades and fireworks can feel cold, especially for kids in strollers.
  • ✕Planning a resort gingerbread tour without dining reservations, or counting on the Grand Floridian house, which has been retired.
  • ✕Trying to do every holiday event. Pick the one or two your kids will love most and enjoy them without rushing.
The Bottom Line

Go in early December if you can, and pick one holiday splurge.

Disney World at Christmas is worth it for most families, and the first two and a half weeks of December give you the decorations, the festival, and the party with far fewer crowds than Christmas week.

The Christmas party is the best holiday extra for younger kids, but it’s pricey and selling out. If it doesn’t fit, the castle lighting, EPCOT’s festival, and Santa in every park still make for a very merry trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does Disney World decorate for Christmas in 2026?

Disney’s official holiday season runs November 13, 2026 through January 6, 2027. Resort decorations usually start appearing in early November, and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party begins November 8.

Is Disney World crowded at Christmas?

The days from about December 20 through early January are among the most crowded of the entire year. Early December, after Thanksgiving weekend, is usually much calmer and still has all the holiday events running.

How much are Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party tickets in 2026?

Adult tickets run about $189–$229 before tax, depending on the date. Kids ages 3–9 are $10 less. Prices climb as the dates get closer to Christmas, and several nights had already sold out by mid-October.

Is the Christmas party worth it with toddlers?

It can be, if you use the 4 p.m. entry, plan a hotel break earlier in the day, and stay only as long as your toddler is happy. If your little one is usually asleep by 8, the parade and fireworks may not be worth the price.

Can you see Christmas decorations at Disney World without the party?

Yes. All four parks are decorated with a regular ticket, the Frozen Holiday Surprise castle lighting happens nightly, EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays is included with admission, and Santa visits every park through Christmas Eve.

Is the Grand Floridian gingerbread house back in 2026?

No. Disney has permanently retired the life-size gingerbread house and plans smaller gingerbread displays around the hotel instead. Disney hadn’t announced other resorts’ 2026 gingerbread displays when we checked.

What should kids wear to Disney World in December?

Layers. T-shirts and shorts or light pants usually work during the day, but bring a light jacket or sweatshirt for evenings, and a blanket for little ones in strollers during nighttime shows.
